This captivating discussion aims to discuss the hot topic of how country platforms can deliver LLA through concrete examples.
With the UNFCCC COP30 in Belém, Brazil, fast approaching, national platforms are back at the centre of climate finance debates. Under the impetus of the UNFCCC, multilateral development banks (MDBs) and the G20, the concept is gaining new momentum: Brazil and South Africa are using their respective presidencies of COP30 and the G20 to encourage mutual learning and lay the foundations for a new generation of platforms.
These platforms aim to align different sources of finance with national priorities, reduce fragmentation and improve coordination. They combine loans and grants, support sectoral transitions and seek to accelerate climate action.
However, most of these platforms continue to focus on the most profitable and least risky projects, mainly in middle-income countries.
What about the least developed countries (LDCs)? How can these platforms be set up to enable a more equitable and inclusive global climate finance architecture?
