Convened by the African Union and hosted by the Government of Ethiopia, the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS-2) will provide a vital platform for African policymakers, businesses, civil society, and climate leaders to advance the continent’s climate agenda and sustainable development priorities.
As climate impacts intensify across Africa, ACS-2 represents a critical milestone on the road to COP30—an opportunity for Africa to unite around its priorities, champion home-grown solutions, and shape global climate policy. The summit will spotlight African leadership in climate action, drive forward calls for new and just global financing systems, and catalyse bold commitments to adaptation, mitigation, and inclusive green growth.
ACS-2 also places a strong emphasis on community empowerment, particularly of youth and Indigenous Peoples, and seeks to foster fair partnerships and multilateral cooperation. It positions Africa not only as a region on the frontline of climate impacts, but as a powerhouse of climate innovation and solutions.
As most of the LDCs and eight LIFE-AR countries are African countries, it is essential for LIFE-AR to ensure that the progress of the initiative and the uniqueness of its approach, adapted to the needs of LDCs, is well profiled. ACS2 is for LIFE-AR a building block on the road to COP30, to build on the energy and discussions from the Board and Learning Day which will take place the week before.
